As a former TV News Reporter, I would often meet people in my community after something horrible had occurred—devastating fire, catastrophic accidents, sickness such as rare cancers in children, or the tragic loss of a loved one.

I decided to enter the insurance profession in 2003 so that I and my team would have the ability to proactively protect people from the risks of everyday life while also linking them with various tools to help map out their dreams and legacies.

Did you know May is National Safety Month? Here are a few action items to consider:

• Create a Safety Plan: Families and businesses should develop a safety plan that includes emergency contacts, evacuation routes, and procedures for various scenarios (e.g., fire, severe weather).

• Practice Fire Safety: Check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms, create and practice a fire escape plan, and ensure fire extinguishers are accessible and functional.

• Promote Workplace Safety: Businesses should prioritize safety training for employees, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and regular safety audits to identify and mitigate risks.

• Vehicle Safety Checks: As summer approaches, drivers can check their vehicles for maintenance needs, including brakes, tires, and fluid levels, and to ensure that they have the appropriate auto insurance coverage.

• Cyber Safety Awareness: Consumers should use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and always error on the side of caution with personal information online.

• Home Safety Measures: Consider installing a security system, using anti-slip mats in bathrooms, and making sure there's proper lighting in hallways and staircases

• First Aid Training: Take a first aid and/or CPR class to be prepared for emergencies and to know how to respond effectively.

• Health and Wellness: Aim to manage your mental health and well-being through stress management, regular exercise, and seeking professional help when needed.
